If you have an idea, a desire that you really want to take action on because it is important for your personal fulfilment, chances are that you will encounter resistance.
What resistance does is that it actually keeps you from doing what you want. Or it stops you from finishing doing the things that you need to do to get the results that you want. Or it slows you down along the process.
In any case, we want to know what resistance looks like for us. Resistance is actually fear. Fear of failure, rejection, of not being good enough, of uncertainty and even fear of success.
“Feel the fear and do it anyway”
And that fear causes us to want to stay in the situation that we are in. So we stay in our comfort zone and we’re comfortable, but not fulfilled. Not if you have a desire you’re not attending to.
It's that fear that keeps us in the same place where we have been or it pulls us back when we start to take action for change. So how do you know what resistance looks like for you?
Your reasons not to take action are your resistance
Ask yourself this question and I'd like to invite you to write it down on a piece of paper.
What are the reasons for you NOT to take action on the thing you want? Or: what are the reasons why you're not taking AS MUCH action as you could to achieve the goals that you have?
When you write down the reasons that you have, these are probably very valid reasons. It could be about: a lack of time, support from other people, money. It can be thoughts that your work isn't good enough. It can be a lack of knowledge.
You might think you should do a course first and maybe another one. You should know more about other things before you can take action.
And so we can all have these reasons not to do as much as we can do or not act on it at all. But think about this.
“Circumstances don’t determine possibilities. You do.”
If you see your list of reasons why you're not taking massive action, can you see how these reasons is actually your resistance?
Because in the end, our external circumstances, they don't dictate what we do or don't do. It's us who decides not to start, no to finish or to slow down. It’s us who doesn’t ship the work that needs to be shipped.
We are the person who decides where we act on, where we put our time and effort in. It's just that the external circumstances can pull us away from what we want by distracting us, but that is actually resistance.
And so when you know now that that is resistance for you, what do you need in order to take action on the things you want anyway, while you have that resistance?
You see, it's not about dissolving your resistance. Sometimes we can work on the resistance part, but it doesn't take away our ability to also take action on the things we want.
Let’s feel the fear and do it anyway.
Have a great day!
